You want to make a change – such as exercising more, giving up smoking or lightening up your mood – but however hard you try, you’re getting nowhere fast. It feels as if you’re banging your head against a brick wall.
It may be your energy is flowing the wrong way round your body. This is rather like putting the batteries into a torch the wrong way round; the bulb will never light until they are turned round so the energy can flow in the right direction.
When your energy flows the wrong way, it turns your conscious thought of ‘I want to give up smoking’ round to the opposite unconscious thought ‘I don’t want to give up smoking’. Muscle testing confirms that our conscious thoughts are indeed often reversed at the unconscious level.
Switched energy flow, known in EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) as ‘psychological reversal’ and in kinesiology as ‘reversed polarity’, is present in around 4 out of 10 people, and is even more common in people with degenerative diseases, depression, or addictions.
Unfortunately you’re unlikely to be able to detect when your energy is reversed. The good news is that there are easy ways to ensure it’s flowing the right way.
Three ways to get your energy flowing the right way
1. Rescue Remedy
Take a few drops of the Bach Flower ‘Rescue Remedy’ drops under your tongue, or better still add a few drops to your drinking water, so you’re continually keeping your energy flowing the right way.
2. Karate chop points
Repeatedly tap your karate chop points together for 15 seconds.
The karate chop point is on the edge of your hand (the side you’d use to make a chopping action with your hand), located midway between the base of your little finger and the side of your wrist.

The first stage of the EFT procedure is to say the Setup sentence, while tapping the karate chop point on the edge of your hand.
The Setup takes the form:
Even though I <want to give up smoking>, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
The juxtaposition of <the problem> with a broader perspective of acceptance, corrects any reversed energy flow.
The Setup may be effective on its own, though it’s usual to follow it with a round of tapping.
Events of the day can easily cause your energy to reverse again, and unless you can muscle test or use another method to check, you won’t know this has happened. An easy solution is to assume your energy does switch and correct its flow at regular times through the day. You could do this: before meals, when you visit the bathroom, or any other time that fits into your routine.
Try this for a week or so, and check for progress in your healing.
