My
friend carries a tiny bottle of vinegar in her handbag, so at the earliest of a sign of a migraine she can take a sniff. This stops the migraine in its tracks.
Or, if you are at home, you can add vinegar to boiling water, and inhale.

If you’re plagued by too many thoughts spinning around your head, try this Eckhart Tolle technique.
Ask yourself ‘I wonder what my next thought is going to be?’
If you’re like me, you’ll suddenly find your mind goes blank!

Ginger has a multitude of healing properties, including: alleviating motion and morning sickness, aiding digestion, acting as a decongestant and also as a diuretic. (It also has a warming effect, so best avoided if you’re feeling hot or have high blood pressure.)
Cut thin slices of fresh ginger root. Add boiling water and a slice of lemon. Allow to infuse until it reaches the strength you like. Sip and savour!
I first tasted this tea with an Italian fig biscuit in the tranquility of the Botanic Gardens in Cambridge! To comment, click (more…)

I was wary of adding beet stalks and leaves to my smoothies, thinking they would make it bitter. Not so, it came out a beautiful pink colour and delicious!
Blend: 1 peeled orange, 1 inch slice fresh pineapple, 1 banana, 1 apple, handful of beet tops (stalks and leaves). Add some water if you prefer a drinkable smoothie. Vary the ingredients to match what you have available.
Enjoy! (more…)

Summertime in Scotland draws the potential hazards of bites and sunburn.
For me midge bites (like a mild form of mosquito bite) quickly disappear, but cleg, or horse fly bites, swell up and itch for a week or more. (more…)

If your energy is flowing the wrong way, it’s moving backwards while you’re trying to move forwards! No wonder it’s difficult to heal.
Fortunately there’s an easy way to ensure your energy flows the right way.
Use your finger tips, or loosely curled fists, to tap or rub your K27 points. They are located slightly below the notch at the inner end of your collarbone, as shown in the photo.

Don’t throw out your tired greens – all they need is a drink! Submerge your lettuce, rocket or other leaves in a bowl of cold water, forget about them for a few hours, then be ready for a surprise!
This also works for whole brocolli, cabbage, celery, lettuce etc. For best results first trim off the dried end of the stump, so the water can get in.
Enjoy!

When you’re exercising and find yourself getting out of breath, try transferring your focus from your in-breath to your out-breath. Simply place your attention on breathing out as deeply as you can, and, like a squeezed-out sponge, your lungs will automatically fill up again with a deep breath.
This helped me keep my breathing controlled when I used to jog, and later when I pushed our pram up a very steep hill every day!

Quinoa, pronounced ‘keen-wah’ is a seed which contains all eight essential amino acids, so it’s an excellent source of vegetable protein.
You can sprout quinoa, or cook it and use it like rice or cous cous.
In the winter I make a ‘warm salad’ which is a fresh salad with warm quinoa on top. Yum!

Cold water boosts your circulation, releases toxins and gives you a glorious sense of well-being! I’m not as brave as my mother who took a cold bath every morning for sixty odd years. So, I have my usual warm shower, then turn it to cold, and stay under a few seconds longer each day. Try it, you’ll step out feeling rejuvenated!
Caution: not recommended if you have a heart problem.
